HoYay!

Hey everyone, this is Nicole. I finally got around to post fanfic recommendations, like I promised a few weeks ago. In a bit of an experiment, I decided to try and pair each of the fanfics listed below to appropriate music. So, you're getting two bangs for your buck: new fanfics, and new music (hopefully).

The two fandoms of choice here are Heroes and House. Some of these fics are more gen fic than others. But the majority do have some kind of slashiness within.

All of the song links are from imeem, since the site allows for streaming entire tracks. I regret to say that it requires the usual registration with an e-mail address, but at least this way you can stream entire songs without having to pay first through iTunes or something.

Heroes fanfic recommendations

Quietly Suburban Warfare by toestastegood

Rating: PG

Characters/Pairing: Claude/Bennet (but honestly, Sandra/Bennet = TruWuv, so I choose to ignore the single line of text that suggests the previously listed pairing :P. Even if this is a slash community I'm posting to.)

Summary: Claude drops in on his former partner for the last time.
"A nice house in the suburbs, mate - it's not exactly deep cover, is it?"

Song recommendations:
Street Spirit by Radiohead
Note: Jazz musician Eliza Lumley did a very interesting rendition of this song. Here is the link, should it pique your interest: Street Spirit by Eliza Lumley

----------------

Disturbed by paxlux

Characters/Pairing: Mohinder, Mohinder/Sylar.

Rating: PG-13

Summary: First-person narrative.
"Who in the their right mind, after seeing the things I’ve seen, the conversations I’ve had about exploding men and regenerating cheerleaders and serial killers with a need for neurological matter, who would stay here in the same city, day after day, hating themselves for staying and hoping and making demands that no one has any right to make? Would they still be sane?"

Song recommendations:
Glass souls by Benzos

----------------

Caged bycatoasapun

Characters/Pairing: Sylar, Mohinder/Sylar

Rating: PG-13

Summary: Another first-person narrative. Companion to "Disturbed."
"Conversation came easily between us; it was like seeing an old friend after several years only to find it’s as if no time has passed at all. Nothing was forced, nothing was feigned; everything just fell into place."

Song recommendations:
Stromata by Charolette Martin and Bullet Proof… I Wish I Was by Radiohead
Notes: Again, Ms. Lumley has also covered Bulletproof… I Wish I Was.

----------------

On the Boulevard by aurilly

Characters/Pairing: Mohinder, Sylar, subtext of Mohinder/Sylar

Rating: PG

Summary: Mohinder and Sylar enter a verbal repartee.
"'If you really despised my company that much, you could very well just get up and go improve your awful wardrobe at that Zara across the street… although Le Bon Marché is only a few blocks away and would be a much better use of your money… and yet you don’t. Therefore, I can only assume that you really do enjoy sitting here with me.'"

Song recommendations:
Return of the rocking chair by Andrea Parker and All I Need by Radiohead
Also, including this song solely to amuse myself: Flowers by Emilie Simon

----------------

While you were sleeping by poetess_noire

Characters/Pairing: Matt, Mohinder/Sylar

Rating: PG-13

Summary: "When he was having trouble sleeping was the only time he broke the unspoken rule. Mohinder wasn’t awake to get aggravated, and there was something soothing rather than guilt-inducing about stepping into the dreams and thoughts of others when they were completely unaware and sound asleep."

Song recommendations:
Remember Me as a Time of Day by Explosions in the Sky and A Hopeless Attempt by Charlotte Martin

----------------

We talk in code by blueinkedwalls

Characters/Pairing: Mohinder/Sylar

Rating: NC-17

Summary: A very surreal look at Mohinder's dreams. Reminds me quite a bit of James Joyce's Ulysses. Takes place during the season one road trip.
"He digs his knees into the sand and begins connecting the dots, drawing lines between the circles until they’re a map. These paths all lead to the same place."

Song recommendations:
Clutching at Straws by Andrea Parker
